Rights for Daily Life (Articles 25–37)

Rights That Shape Everyday Life

The next block covers property, belief, information, and the social and economic rights that affect daily living.

  • Article 25 — Right relating to Property. Every citizen may acquire, own, sell and otherwise deal with property, subject to law.
  • Article 26 — Right to Freedom of Religion. Everyone may profess and practise their own faith; but no one may convert another person from one religion to another.
  • Article 27 — Right to Information. Every citizen may demand and receive information on any matter of public concern.
  • Article 28 — Right to Privacy. The privacy of a person, their residence, property, documents, data and correspondence is inviolable.
  • Article 29 — Right against Exploitation. No one may be exploited; trafficking, slavery, bonded labour and forced labour are prohibited.
  • Article 30 — Right to Clean Environment. Every citizen has the right to live in a clean and healthy environment.
  • Article 31 — Right relating to Education. Every citizen has the right to access basic education; basic education is compulsory and free, and secondary education is free.
  • Article 32 — Right to Language and Culture. Every person and community may use and preserve their language, script and culture.
  • Article 33 — Right to Employment. Every citizen has the right to employment.
  • Article 34 — Right to Labour. Every worker has the right to fair labour practice, appropriate remuneration and to form trade unions.
  • Article 35 — Right relating to Health. Every citizen has the right to free basic health services and equal access to health care.
  • Article 36 — Right relating to Food. Every citizen has the right to food, and the right to be safe from a state of hunger (food sovereignty).
  • Article 37 — Right to Housing. Every citizen has the right to appropriate housing.
